Cannabis is one of the most pharmacologically fascinating plant species in the world. There are over 100 known phytocannabinoids produced by the cannabis plant that elicit a wide variety of responses from the human body, from pain relief to appetite stimulation. One of these hundreds of phytocannabinoids that has recently gained public attention in the world of cannabis is CBG, Cannabigerol.
CBG is the decarboxylated version of cannabigerolic acid, the parent molecule from which all other cannabinoids are synthesized from.
CBG is found mostly in trace amounts in cannabis flower, as most of it converts to THC or CBD. Recently, more cannabis companies are exploring the potential benefits of CBG. Research has shown CBG has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties without the psychoactivity that is associated with THC.
Scientific studies also show CBG's potential for treating gastrointestinal issues. One study showed that CBG inhibits the growth of colorectal cancer cells in mice while another European study showed its effectiveness as an antibacterial agent. CBG can also help promote appetite without the high associated with cannabis.
Here at The Roots Dispensary, we carry a few different products with CBG in them. The Wyld pear 1:1 gummies have 10 milligrams of THC and 10 milligrams of CBG and are infused with natural terpenes such as limonene and alpha-pinene to help with the targeted effects.
We also have the huckleberry basil Relief gummies from Care By Design. These gummies are vegan friendly and are made with full spectrum cannabis oil. Every two pieces comes with 5 milligrams THC, 5 milligrams CBG, and 5 milligrams CBG.
Finally, we have the Calm CBG Tablingual from Level. This box of 15 tablets comes with 3.3 milligrams of CBG per tablet and nothing else so you can fully feel the effects of CBG by itself. The tablets disolve quickly under the tongue and takes effect quickly, making it perfect for people who are looking to microdose cannabis.
Cannabigerol is an exciting cannabinoid with major potential to help treat some serious ailments with minimal side effects. More research is needed to fully grasp the impact of CBG on the human body and we’re excited to see what they discover next.
